Use Critical Thinking to Underpin Decisions and Opinions

“I am not ashamed of changing my opinions because I am not afraid to think and learn.”

Although written in the 19th century, this quote from Portuguese writer and journalist Alexandre Herculano continues to be current and relevant.

We have been living in an environment of transitory truths (some not so true and some not so transitory). Professionals who form an opinion and make decisions supported by an impartial analysis and assessment of the situation use a critical competence that differentiates them from those who limit themselves to repeating beliefs often built on fragile premises.

This course is an invitation to get out of an automatic and comfortable process, just like the prisoner who freed himself from the chains in Plato’s famous Allegory of the Cave. This will expand our perspectives as we consider all facets of reality so that our choices and decisions may lead to the expected results.

To achieve this objective, by the end of this course you will have acquired content to:

1. Understand how mental models contribute to create loops that trap us in our bubbles
2. Know the mindset and skills needed to think critically
3. Use a model to build critical thinking
