Conference calls and virtual meetings have become more common over the last few years as many companies have implemented budget cuts leading to travel restrictions. In addition, there has been an increase in flexibility by employers, allowing employees to work from home causing more virtual meetings. Now, the pandemic has caused an explosion of zoom meetings. Today, everything happens via Zoom, Microsoft teams or any other platform. That placed virtual facilitation skills at a premium.

Unfortunately, most meetings (face to face or virtual) are perceived by attendees as a major waste of time. Many times, people get bored in meetings they attend. As a consequence, they get distracted and only a small portion of their contributions are shared.

Some leaders have carried their bad practices from running face to face meetings to the virtual environment. That has made things worse. We believe most leaders could use an upgrade to their meeting facilitation skills.
